A giant pink unicorn is set to float over Canberra during the Enlighten Festival, joining over 20 balloons for the annual Canberra Balloon Spectacular.
Minister for the Arts, Tara Cheyne said the Enlighten festivities would run for nine mornings from this Saturday (6 March) until Sunday 14 March from a new location at Patrick White Lawns.
“Allycorn the giant pink unicorn will join the event for the first time as this year’s special shaped balloon,” Ms Cheyne said.
“This year is the 36th Canberra Balloon Spectacular and while the event is still free to attend, registration is required to keep our community COVID-safe,” she said.
“Weather permitting, balloons will launch daily from 6.15am at the Patrick White Lawns, located between the National Library of Australia and Lake Burley Griffin.”
Ms Cheyne said Canberra Day, 8 March, would see a hive of activity in the Parliamentary Triangle.
“Along with the Canberra Balloon Spectacular on Patrick White lawns, the famous Skywhale and Skywhalepapa will join in the festival fun, launching at a second inflation zone at John Dunmore Lang Place during a special Canberra Day event, Breakfast at Balloons,” the Minister said.
“Make the most of the public holiday and start the day with amazing balloons and hot breakfast,” she said.
Ms Cheyne said breakfast, courtesy of the Belconnen Lions Club, would be available each morning, with proceeds of all purchases donated back into the Canberra community.
