The Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate (TCCS) has issued a community reminder that public transport remains for essential travel only and urged everyone to keep their distance while travelling.
The Directorate said that only travel to and from school or work, the shops and appointments was considered essential travel.
“All bus and light rail services continue to run, including all school services,” TCCS said.
“Your safety and that of our staff is our highest priority and increased cleaning is taking place across all areas of public transport including at stops, stations and within the vehicles,” it said.
The Directorate said people who needed to use its services should be aware that no cash would be accepted on buses; passengers must use the rear door to enter and exit; they should consider walking or riding for shorter trips; and always practice good hygiene.
It said physical distancing was the responsibility of passengers who should leave one seat (or more) on board and stay 1.5 metres apart while waiting at stops and stations.
“If you need to travel think about when you do,” it said.
“Can you travel at quieter times?”
The Directorate said spreading travel times helped maintain physical distancing on services and would prevent crowding.
