The Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) has released an update to the widespread COVIDSafe app, allowing users to download and use the app in their own language.
Announced by the Ministers for Health, Greg Hunt and Government Services, Stuart Robert, the update translates the app and offers topics in the five most-spoken languages in Australia other than English.
“These changes offer an improved user experience for more than 1.5 million Australians who speak Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean and Vietnamese,” Mr Hunt said.
He said DTA would continue to explore the inclusion of additional languages for the app in future releases.
DTA said it had also enhanced accessibility of the app by extending the phone orientation to landscape, allowing for dynamic text and making improvements for people using screen-reader technologies.
“We keep prioritising accessibility improvements as we work towards compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA within the next two releases,” DTA said.
“In response to user feedback, we have provided additional guidance for users whose device operating system automatically optimises the battery,” it said.
“This may result in the COVIDSafe app being disabled.”
DTA said that to complement the app’s update it had also translated the user guide into 63 languages.
