Skills Canberra has put a call out to the public for additions to the ACT’s Skills Needs List which identifies the skills likely to be required by the Territory’s employers and growth industries in the years ahead.
In a statement, the unit within the Chief Minister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate said the Skills Needs List was reviewed every year to ensure it aligned with changing skills needs.
“This enables us to target our investment in vocational education and training to develop a productive and highly skilled workforce,” Skills Canberra said.
“We want to ensure all members of our community can share in our city’s prosperity by equipping them with the right skills to succeed in a changing workforce.”
It said it had developed a search tool so that qualifications on the list could be more easily found.
“We want feedback and evidence from the community, particularly employers and registered training organisations, to supplement our existing evidence.
“This information is vital to ensure we include the skills that Canberra needs in the final list.”
Welcoming the development, Chief Minister, Andrew Barr said the list would be used so the Government could would work with industry on how it could upskill, reskill and retrain people to meet the current and future skills needs of the ACT workforce.
Recommendations for the Skills Needs List can be made by 6 September via an online survey at this PS News link.
