Bikes and e-scooters are to be allowed on South-East Queensland (SEQ) trains during peak periods, following a successful six-month trial last year.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Mark Bailey said following calls from passengers, the trial allowed two bikes or e-scooters in each of the first and last carriages of a train during the morning and afternoon peak periods.
“More than 170,000 customers took up the opportunity to travel with their bike or e-scooter during the trial, which shows that this is something that people want and need,” Mr Bailey said.
“Being able to take a bike or e-scooter on a train in peak provides another option for customers to travel to or from their train station, so it’s another positive step towards an integrated public transport network,” he said.
The Minister said after positive feedback, it was decided to allow bikes and e-scooters on trains during peak periods on a permanent basis.
However, he reminded passengers to be mindful of others when taking a bike or e-scooter on a train.
“We started the trial at a time when there were less trips being taken on the SEQ public transport network due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so there was more space on board trains,” he said.
“Please continue to use only the nominated first or last carriage of services and ensure access to priority areas and seating, aisles and doorways is kept clear.
“Please also make sure you stay with your bike or e-scooter at all times,” Mr Bailey said.
