Users of Gundaroo Road in Gungahlin have been advised that a westbound traffic switch has been put in place at the Stage Two duplication works between Nudurr Drive and the Barton Highway.
Executive Branch Manager, Infrastructure Delivery at Transport Canberra and City Services, Jeremy Smith said the second stage of the duplication of Gundaroo Drive began in May 2018.
“The project team has been working between Nudurr Drive and the Barton Highway to relocate utilities, duplicate the existing bridge and construct the new lanes,” Mr Smith said.
“This traffic switch allows the project team safe access to construct the new, widened median and to widen the existing roundabout at Abena Avenue.”
He said the second stage included the duplication of 2.45 kilometres of Gundaroo Drive between Gungahlin Drive and the Barton Highway to provide an additional lane in each direction; off-road shared use paths; LED streetlights; improved bus facilities; noise walls; and on-road cycle lanes.
“The next milestone will be the opening of all four lanes in this section and start of work between Gungahlin Drive and Nudurr Drive,” Mr Smith said.
“Whilst traffic is being moved onto the new carriageway, we do advise that the final layer of resurfacing will be carried out simultaneously on the entire length of the new carriageway (Gungahlin Drive to the Barton Highway) prior to project completion which is on track for mid-2020.”
