Tourism campaign goes to town on the city

The South Australian Tourism Commission has launched a campaign to drive up visitation and expenditure in Adelaide’s CBD to help local businesses negatively impacted by more people working from home.

The Commission said the campaign #GoToTown included the new FOMO Fridays initiative to be delivered in partnership with the City of Adelaide, the Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA) and the Property Council South Australia in June.

Premier Steven Marshall said that while regional South Australia had enjoyed record-high occupancy rates for seven consecutive months, City businesses had felt the brunt of a downturn in interstate and corporate visitors due to pandemic border restrictions.

Go To Town is a simple message to South Australians to remind them of what makes our City one of the world’s best,” Mr Marshall said.

Go To Town invites South Australians to enjoy all that our City has to offer, while supporting local business,” he said.

The Commission said FOMO Fridays, to launch on 17 September, would include free activities in public spaces, live music and special business offers every Friday for four weeks.

It said the initiative would see a block of street events, office parties and outdoor activities aimed at enticing CBD workers back into offices and out of working from home on Fridays.

Executive Director of the Property Council South Australia, Daniel Gannon said it was vital support for the City’s economy.

“The Adelaide CBD supports thousands of jobs, generates hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity and is home to approximately 20,000 residents, which makes this initiative an important priority,” Mr Gannon said.
