The aroma of butter and sugar might not waft from 90 Belinda Street, Gerringong quite as often these days as it did back in the 20s, but it sure is a sweet property to hit the picturesque locale.

Aptly named the “Bakehouse Cottage”, this pretty home is believed to have been built in 1926 for the local baker and has retained most of the character features of that period.

Today however, the charms of the high ceilings with their ornate cornices and roses, exposed brick features and textured glass windows serve to complement every modern convenience, all packaged in a crisply renovated home.

First National Coast & Country’s Angie Ritchie says the single-level, five-bedroom home perched on 758 sqm will attract a diverse range of prospective buyers.

“We’ve already had a lot of enquiry from downsizers looking for something single level, but given its central location and size, the Cottage Bakehouse will no doubt attract its share of holiday home hunters and young families as well,” she says.

“This is a unique opportunity to own a piece of Gerringong history.”

As befits the building standards of the day, all five bedrooms of this home are generous, and most have built-in wardrobes.

There are several living spaces in the home to cater to a range of experiences, including a delightful sunroom.

The two bathrooms have been renovated to expose striking brick walls and the updated kitchen is well equipped for the home cook.

Awash in natural light, the double-brick construction adds a good deal of thermal mass, making the home naturally cool in summer and warm in winter, with the addition of air-conditioning to some spaces to guarantee year-round comfort.

Outside there are multiple ways to enjoy the outdoors.

The north-facing rear includes a large undercover alfresco area, perfect for hosting a barbecue with family and friends or simply enjoying a quiet moment to soak up the sunshine.

This overlooks a levelled grass area ideal for pets or kicking around a ball.

“The owners will love sitting out there with a good book and a cuppa,” Angie says. “Out front, the lovely porch is a sunset sipper; a wonderful, cool space in the summer months where you can enjoy a drink and a cheese platter and watch the world go by.”

There is plenty of parking in the property with a large driveway leading to a freestanding single garage and a concrete pad for a garden shed or chook run.

The block size also leaves plenty of room for a pool or granny flat, subject to council approval.

With a renovation embracing a country-coastal chic aesthetic fitting for the suburb of Gerringong, Angie says there’s nothing left to do to this property but move in and enjoy the lifestyle on offer.

“Opportunities like this – the size of the block, the character of the home, the accessibility of the location – rarely come onto the market,” she says.

Conveniently located less than 300 m to Gerringong CBD, 500 m to the local school and 800 m to the train station, the address makes the most of the microcosm of Gerringong, where rolling farmland meets the pristine southern coastline.
