The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has released its Career Kickstart program to provide opportunities for high school graduates who have completed their Year 12 studies in the past year to get a job at the ATO in a regional location.
The Office is looking to recruit school leavers from Townsville (QLD), Gosford and Newcastle (NSW) and Geelong (VIC).
Assistant Taxation Commissioner, Alison Stott said the program aimed to open career pathways for young people who wanted to learn new skills in a professional and supportive environment.
Ms Stott said that at the same time the new appointees could be earning a good income, gaining valuable work experience, building professional capabilities and learning work practices.
“This new program really rounds out our suite of entry-level employment programs, along with our award-winning Graduate program, our Evergreen Indigenous program, our University Partnership Employment program and our Opening Doors program,” Ms Stott said.
“Formal training and professional development will be provided by the ATO as part of the program, and successful candidates will earn a competitive starting salary.”
She said university was not for everyone, and some school leavers who were keen for tertiary study liked to take a break between school and university.
“So we think our program will appeal to both of these groups who are looking to get a foot in the door,” she said.
Ms Stott said the ATO was a large, diverse, and dispersed organisation with many different potential career pathways.
“Some people may be surprised to know we’re not all accountants. We also have opportunities in everything from IT to human resources, through to marketing and communication, and customer service,” she said.
Applications for the 2021 Career Kickstart program open on 18 May and close on 2 June and details on how to apply for the program can be accessed at this PS News link.
