The European Broadcasting Union expects public service media (PSM) audiences will remain high across the continent this year, with an increasing emphasis on digital media.
Senior Strategy Analyst at the EBU, Tanja Meyerhofer says innovation will be the key this year as PSM focused on helping society even more.
“This year will see PSM consolidate its role as a social innovator whose content and services will offer new ways of tackling society’s complex problems collaboratively, thereby building a better future for the communities they serve,” Ms Meyerhofer said.
Deputy Media Director and Head of News, Liz Corbin (pictured) agreed.
“We should expect even greater leaps in technology and digital news services, particularly for public service newsrooms,” Ms Corbin said.
“The pandemic has forced us to make changes we had previously thought too ambitious or too challenging,” she said.
“That has given us confidence.”
Ms Corbin said this had helped to grow the trust and loyalty PSM had received not just from existing audiences but new ones.
“So, in 2021, we’ll be building on that and making sure we reach as many people as possible with top quality journalism,” she said.
Director of Sport, Glen Killane said he was looking forward to the return of live sport during the year and predicted the emergence of some unexpected new partnerships.
“This will be the year when the most unlikely alliances in sport will emerge — organisations we thought would never work together will see the benefits of collaboration,” Mr Killane said.
