By Kylie Minogue, Warner Music 2019.
This album is the ultimate collection of Kylie Minogue’s hits spanning her entire 30+ year career from 1987’s I Should Be So Lucky through to her latest release, New York City.
Collectively Kylie has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide as well as achieving 16 ARIA Awards, three Brit Awards and a Grammy.
It’s hard to overstate the importance of Kylie Minogue to the Australian music industry and the fact that she was overlooked for inclusion into the Australian Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for so long was a travesty of justice, which was perfectly expressed by Nick Cave when he accepted his own nomination.
Even if you aren’t necessarily a Kylie fan, a trip through the 42 tracks on this disc shows us just what a presence she has had on the local music scene.
The breadth of the material from the catchy pop confection of, The Loco-Motion through to the darkness of Where The Wild Roses Grow reveal an artist of extraordinary ability.
Tracks like I Could Be So Lucky, Spinning Around, On A Night Like This (her tremendous duet with Robbie Williams), Can’t Get You Out Of My Head, In Your Eyes, Where The Wild Roses Grow (her equally stunning duet with Nick Cave), Two Hearts, and so the list goes on, are classic tracks anyone would be proud to own.
This year Kylie Minogue will perform at the Glastonbury Festival on the iconic Pyramid stage in a sign that she has finally joined the elite of the music business which includes such luminaries as Stevie Wonder and Sir Paul McCartney.
Step Back In Time will be released on the 28 June, just prior to her 30 June performance at Glastonbury.
I have little doubt Kylie’s time has finally come and that she will be appreciated for the iconic Australian, and international, artist she is.
