State Super has announced a new academic scholarship program to encourage research into public sector employees and their preparation for retirement as part of its 100th anniversary this year.
The fund said the scholarship program would support those seeking to complete research at postgraduate level in 2020, either Honours/Masters (by Research) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
It said applicants for the scholarship should have a desire to contribute to a vision for the future of superannuation and retirement incomes and have demonstrated academic excellence in their field.
“Your proposed research must contribute to the knowledge base for future planning by the NSW government in one of State Super’s priority areas: public sector retirement, pensions and superannuation,” it said.
It said successful applicants would receive financial support for 12 months, with four Honors/Masters scholarships available worth $16,000 each and one PhD Scholarship available worth $36,000.
It said applications would be considered by a scholarship review panel using a standardised assessment process.
“Selection will be based on the candidate’s ability to articulate how the proposed research will contribute to the future of superannuation in the NSW public sector,” it said.
State Super said the review panel would include representatives from itself; NSW Treasury; the NSW Department of Education; and an unnamed retired NSW academic.
Applications will close on 31 January 2020 with the scholarships awarded a month later on 29 February.
