Queenslanders have been invited to join in the State’s 163rd birthday celebrations, after Government funding was announced for 15 community-led events.
Acting Premier, Steven Miles said Queensland Day on 6 June was an opportunity for all Queenslanders to commemorate and share the State’s many compelling stories.
“Each year, on and around 6 June, Queenslanders come together in a variety of ways to celebrate Queensland’s unique history, culture, industry and achievements,” Dr Miles said.
“In 2022, the Government will once again be encouraging participation in Queensland Day through a number of inclusive community celebrations, supported by the Queensland Day Sponsorship Program ,” he said.
Dr Miles said from sporting competitions and family fun days, to multicultural festivals, baking competitions and colourful parades, “our Queensland Day events reflect the diverse and active interests of Queenslanders”.
“This June, I’m excited for Queenslanders of all ages — from all backgrounds and communities — to show up and share their love of our brilliant, resilient State,” he said.
Queensland Day events will be hosted between 4 and 12 June.
Applications for the 2022 Queensland Day Sponsorship Program opened last June, with community groups throughout the State invited to seek funding of up to $15,000 for events and initiatives celebrating Queensland Day.
Among successful recipients of the funding were Burdekin Shire Council’s Queensland Day Fun and Fitness Expo (5 June); the Multicultural Families Organisation’s Multicultural Village Gold Coast (4 June); Wide Bay Advocacy’s Walk for Queensland Day (4 June) and Yandina and District Historical Society’s Queensland Day Celebrations in Yandina (4 June).
