The State Government has set the stage for the 2022 WA Day celebrations next week (6 June) with a range of free community events and activities across the State to celebrate Western Australia’s people, lifestyle and cultures.

According to the organisers the State’s contribution from Lotterywest will go towards ensuring festivities proceed with Western Australia’s biggest drone light show and WA live music from 12pm to 9.30pm at the Burswood Parklands.

The organisers say the drone show will light the night sky and the audience’s imagination with 500 drones telling WA stories to a WA themed musical score playing on screens and speakers.

“The Burswood Parklands event will feature family friendly entertainment and attractions including a silent disco, roaming entertainers, the Lotterywest Community Stage filled with talent, 16 carnival rides and games, and more than 20 incredible family fun activations, the organisers said.

Western Australians will have the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the State’s Whadjuk Noongar history through Whadjuk Dreaming, an anthology of four animated short films in a bespoke dome.

According to Premier Mark McGowan, WA day is a day for everyone in WA.

“WA Day is a fantastic opportunity for all Western Australians to celebrate the diverse and rich cultures, talented musicians and entertainers that make WA such a great place to live,” Mr McGowan said.

“I hope we can mirror the success of last year’s WA Day celebrations, which saw more than 140,000 people attend 10 WA Day festivals across the State,” he said.

“WA Day is a calendar highlight and the support of the State Government and others will ensure the 2022 celebrations are the best yet.”

The celebrations will also include events across WA in Albany, Carnarvon, Fremantle, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Newman and Port Hedland and in a first for the region, the drone light show is to travel to Port Hedland for a community event on Saturday, 11 June.
