The Department of Sport, Recreation and the Arts has launched its latest grants program for Queensland’s sport and recreation clubs to receive $2,000 from the COVID-SAFE Active Clubs Kickstart Program.
The Department said the program would help not-for-profit clubs with the cost of new equipment, training or operational expenses.
It included such items of expenditure as electricity and water tariffs or ground maintenance.
Minister for Sport, Stirling Hinchliffe said clubs could also receive $2,000 to train coaches in the latest techniques to keep teams firing, or support volunteer treasurers with the tools they needed to grow their club’s finances.
“The program is designed to help volunteers build resilience and capability to ensure local sporting and recreation clubs remain at the heart of their community’s COVID recovery,” Mr Hinchliffe said.
“Since the pandemic, community sport and recreation clubs have never been more important for keeping Queenslanders connected, active and healthy.”
Mr Hinchliffe said round one of Active Clubs Kickstart in 2020 had delivered $7.65 million to 3,828 clubs and organisations to help them get through the pandemic.
The Department also conducted a survey with more than 1,200 responses identifying resources for volunteers as one the highest priorities for clubs.
The program is part of the Government’s COVID-SAFE Restart Plan which has supported the sport and active recreation industry through the pandemic.
Applications are open until 5 May and can be made on the Department’s website at this PS News link.
