Nominations are now open for the 2019 CBR Sport Awards which recognise and celebrate Canberra’s exceptional local athletes, teams, volunteers, coaches and sporting organisations.

Minister for Sport and Recreation, Yvette Berry said the CBR Sport Awards were an opportunity to come together and celebrate the vibrant sport and recreation community in Canberra, which nurtures athletes from the grassroots all the way to elite level.

“Sport has the ability to bring communities together and break down barriers of culture, class, and gender,” Ms Berry said.

“I encourage peak sporting organisations and local sporting clubs and associations to nominate high achievers in community sport and at the elite level that contribute to building the ACT’s sporting community.”

She said the Awards were an opportunity to recognise the individuals and organisations that contribute to Canberra’s sports community.

She said some of the award categories were Team of the Year; Rising Star; Outstanding Service to Sport; ACT Sport Hall of Fame – Full Member; and ACT Sport Hall of Fame – Associate Member.

She said there would also be Athlete of the Year awards for men, women and para sports as well as three Minister for Sport and Recreation awards recognising inclusion, innovation, and event excellence.

Nominations will be accepted until 8 October.
