The Department of Social Services (DSS) is calling for recent graduates to join its ranks, opening applications for its 2024 Graduate Development Program.

Calling for applications, the Department said the Program gave graduates the chance to progress from an APS 3 classification to an APS 5 classification in just 10 months.

“Our graduate program gives you the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our society,” the Department said.

“You will be provided with varied work experience, formal training, networking opportunities and diverse career opportunities across the Department,” it said.

“The program starts in February 2024 for 10 months.”

DSS said graduates would perform two five-month work area placements (rotations) across the Department while participating in tailored learning and development activities and networking events.

It said the Program’s Generalist Pathway welcomed applications from all degree disciplines and gave graduates the opportunity to broaden their career by working in policy, program delivery and/or corporate support areas.

The Department said the Program, open for applications until 20 April, also had two specialist pathways, Finance and Communication and Public Affairs.

“Specialist pathways give graduates the opportunity to work in areas relevant to their qualifications and career of choice,” it said.

DSS said the Program offered graduates a variety of interesting and challenging work, access to professional development and on-the-job training, rewarding professional relationships and networking, mentoring and coaching from Senior Executive staff.

It said applicants needed to be an Australian citizen and have completed their degree in the last five years, up to December 2023.

Applications close 30 April 2023 and more information can be found at this PS News link.
