Access Canberra has announced that a giant Tyrannosaurus Rex is to fly high over the Territory as part of the 2020 Canberra Balloon Spectacular this year.
The huge T-Rex balloon is one of around 30 hot air balloons set to drift across the capital each morning from 7 to 15 March as part of the event.
In a statement, the Agency said the balloon event was now in it’s 35th year.
“The Balloon Spectacular is the only event in the world where balloons can fly so close to buildings of national significance, including being able to fly over Parliament House,” Access Canberra said.
“As the balloons ascent into the sky, visitors can enjoy live music, hot drinks and a delicious hot breakfast provided by the Belconnen Lions Club and various food trucks.”
It said daily announcements to confirm whether the balloons would launch – dependent on weather conditions – would be made at 6.15am on each day of the Balloon Spectacular and would be published at www.enlightencanberra.com.
It said taking a balloon ride during the event would also help to boost the local economy.
“While there will be lots of fun to be had on the ground, taking the opportunity to book a balloon flight yourself will support Canberra’s two balloon companies, both of whom have been impacted by the recent bushfires,” Access Canberra said.
It said the famous Skywhale balloon, created by Australian artist Patricia Piccinni, was now part of the National Gallery of Australia collection and was scheduled to fly on Canberra Day, Monday 9 March.
