A dalliance with a good-looking young bartender turns lethal in a thriller that sees both John Malkovich and Frank Grillo performing to expectations.
Divorcee Chris Decker (Cameron Monaghan, Shameless, Gotham) stars as a tech millionaire who becomes the victim of an elaborate heist. Sky (Lilly Krug, Every Breath You Take) is the bartender who strikes up an intimate relationship with Chris after a chance encounter in a supermarket. He falls in love with her.
So, when Chris gets injured in a mugging, his new girlfriend moves in to take care of him, but it’s not long before it becomes obvious that their meeting was anything but accidental. He’s now a prisoner in his own home, and clemency is not about to be shown by a brutal and mentally troubled killer who is out to steal his identity and fortune.
Sky plans to take everything from him, and Chris find himself trapped, along with his ex-wife Jamie (Sasha Luss) and daughter Willow (Ridley Bateman). A desperate fight for survival follows as escape is his only chance of survival.
Two good performances are by Malkovich, an amiable jerk named Ronald, and Frank Grillo’s Sebastian, a smart aleck ruffian.
Directed by Prieto (White Lines, Kidnap, Pusher), Shattered is an erotic thriller, driven by twists that let you down a little. A cat-and-mouse game between a fearful protagonist and a disturbing femme fatale. A good motto here is trust no one.
