Applications are now open for the WA Innovator of the Year program, with six award categories and a total prize pool of $140,000.

In a statement, the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation said the program, which was established in 2006, supported and recognised the State’s trailblazers who had a promising new product, technology or service.

“Applicants are strongly encouraged to highlight how their innovation will benefit WA economically, socially or environmentally,” the Department said.

The top prize, 2021 WA Innovator of the Year, was worth $70,000.

The Department said 16 semi-finalists would receive intensive business commercialisation training, including pitch presentation skills, one-on-one mentoring, a legal health check and financial planning tools.

Eight finalists would also receive a professionally edited video of their innovation.

Minister for Innovation and ICT, Don Punch said Western Australian innovators played an invaluable role in growing and diversifying the State’s economy, and creating the jobs of the future.

“For almost 15 years, the WA Innovator of the Year program has nurtured and showcased local innovative and entrepreneurial ideas, supporting emerging companies with commercialising their product, technology or service,” Mr Punch said.

“I look forward to seeing the innovations highlighted by this year’s program, and how we work with the people behind them to create and support local WA jobs.”

Applications close on 10 May and an 11-page guideline for potential applicants can be accessed at this PS News link.
