The Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate has launched a new safety campaign and series of short videos to educate e-scooter users on how to be a safe and considerate rider.
The Directorate said the Canberra community had embraced e-scooters as a fun and convenient way to get around town.
“Whether you are riding a shared e-scooter, or your own, it’s important to know the rules and be a considerate rider,” the Directorate said.
“It will keep yourself and others safe,” it said.
According to Our CBR, recent survey results showed a high level of support for the shared e-scooter scheme, with 27 per cent of people reporting they had used an e-scooter around the city and Belconnen and two-thirds of respondents (65 per cent) supporting the scheme.
“The survey also found the majority of people feel safe around e-scooters,” Our CBR said.
“However, some members of the community feel unsafe around e-scooters or feel they are not being used in a safe manner,” it said.
Our CBR said the Directorate’s series of short videos focused on road rules; riding and parking etiquette; wearing helmets; and not riding after drinking alcohol.
It said people using e-scooters should remember to always wear a helmet; park responsibly; give way to pedestrians and other path users; and ride responsibly.
