The South Australian State Emergency Service (SASES) deployed a contingent of 26 personnel to support the New South Wales State Emergency Service while the State’s heavy rainfall threatened further flooding to its already impacted areas.
Acting Chief Officer for SASES, Liz Connell said the contingent consisted of Storm Crew, Swiftwater Rescue and Incident Management Team personnel who were due to return today (11 July), with the Incident Management personnel remaining in NSW until Wednesday (13 July).
“SASES has already sent many deployments to NSW this year and we will continue to respond to requests for support from our sister organisation in NSW for as long as we are needed, and we know they will always be there if we need them,” Acting Chief Officer Connell said.
“Emergency services personnel share the same dedication to community, commitment to helping others and concern for those in crisis,’’ she said.
“The floods in New South Wales have had a devastating impact on individuals and communities across a wide area.
“With further heavy rain forecast in coming days our thoughts are with those who have already lost so much.’’
Minister for Emergency Services, Joe Szakacs thanked SASES personnel who were once again volunteering their time to support NSW during the latest devastating flood crisis.
“South Australians don’t hesitate when it comes to helping those in need,’’ Mr Szakacs said.
“Our SASES volunteers are leaving their families, friends and full-time jobs to generously help those who need it most,” he said.
