Permanent CCTV cameras and raised pedestrian crossings are to be among several road safety projects set to be introduced into Canberra this year.
According to OurCBR, the Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate’s road safety initiatives have been funded jointly with the Federal Government.
It said that in Belconnen, permanent CCTV cameras would be installed at eight intersections in Bruce, Kaleen, Belconnen and Page.
It said traffic calming devices, including speed cushions, line marking and raised pedestrian crossings would be placed in Florey, Holt, Evatt and Charnwood, with a new roundabout to go in at Melba.
The CCTV cameras are also to be installed at four intersections in Gungahlin at Throsby, Mitchell, Gungahlin and Nicholls, with traffic calming devices to be introduced in Nicholls.
The cameras are also be installed at five intersections in the city, Inner North and Inner South at Braddon, Griffith, Watson, Campbell and Lyneham, with traffic calming devices to be placed in Dickson, North Ainslie and Ainslie.
“There will also be upgraded road safety barriers along the Kings Highway within the ACT,” the organisers said.
They said CCTV cameras would also be installed at four intersections in Tuggeranong at Symonston, Oxley, Hume, and Greenway, with traffic calming devices for Isabella Plains and Gilmore.
Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo are also to receive CCTV Cameras at intersections in Curtin, Stirling, Hughes and Weston, along with upgraded road safety barriers on the Tuggeranong Parkway between the Glenloch Interchange and south of Hindmarsh Drive.
