NSW Police Commissioner, Mick Fuller has marked the first anniversary of the RISEUP strategy that finds jobs for disengaged young people, by thanking all concerned with its success so far.
Commissioner Fuller said that since its launch in August 2018, the strategy has seen 140 young people referred to workplace opportunities.
Commissioner Fuller said the RISEUP strategy incorporated job ready programs, mentoring and vocational training for people aged 15 to 18 and was supported by the Police and Community Youth Club (PCYC) NSW.
He said the strategy was designed to steer at risk youth away from crime and into workplace opportunities.
Commissioner Fuller said 110 of the 140 young people to secure workplace opportunities had successfully retained employment, which ranged from full-time, part-time and casual work, to apprenticeships and traineeships.
He said 29 were female and 81 male.
He said employment opportunities had been secured in retail, hospitality, fitness/sport and recreation, office management and administration, local council, fast-food, various trades and entertainment.
“NSW Police, together with the PCYC, have shown incredible initiative in reengaging with some of our state’s most vulnerable young people, helping them from heading down a less desirable path in life,” Commissioner Fuller said.
“By partnering with a number of commercial and local businesses, we are helping our youth realise their true potential – and there really is no better reward than to see those people succeed.”
