A design concept for the Rhyll boat ramp upgrade has been released, with the facility set to include a new three-lane, all-tide access ramp.
Minister for Fishing and Boating, Jaala Pulford unveiled the design intended to improve access for boaters and encourage more people to get out on the water.
“Better Boating Victoria worked closely with Bass Coast Shire Council and members of the boating and fishing community on these designs which will see an upgrade to the existing pontoon, installation of an additional pontoon, separate sailboat access, improved traffic flow and better, safer pedestrian access,” Ms Pulford said.
“As part of the project, a heritage consultant will conduct a maritime and Aboriginal heritage impact statement to ensure local maritime and cultural history is protected at the Rhyll boating facility,” she said.
“A reference group will also be established to help ensure ongoing community engagement during the upgrade.”
Ms Pulford said the upgrade was part of a commitment to improve boating in Victoria, which included the scrapping of parking and launching fees at public boat ramps across the state.
“We’ve listened to local boaters about what they want at the Rhyll boat ramp and that’s exactly what we’re delivering,” Ms Pulford said.
