City Services is celebrating National Recycling Week this week (8-14 November) by challenging Canberrans to test their recycling knowledge.
In a statement, the Directorate said the top-scoring recycler in its National Recycling Week quiz would win a $100 voucher for The Plastic Free Shop and the runner-up would win a $50 voucher.
“National Recycling Week is the perfect opportunity to remind ourselves how to recycle right and reduce our household waste,” the Directorate said.
“Many Canberrans think we’re great recyclers, 96 per cent of us in fact,” it said.
“But while we generally do a good job at recycling, we’re still getting it wrong one in five times!”
The Directorate encouraged people to take the quiz to see how much they really knew about recycling and discover what steps they could take to get their waste and recycling in order.
“Eighty-six per cent of Canberrans want to take more action to reduce their waste and recycle more,” it said.
“A great way to take action is by visiting the online Recyclopaedia – a searchable tool to find out how to responsibly dispose of hundreds of different items.”
The Directorate said people could also book in to an education session with its Recycling Discovery Hub team to learn about what happened to recycling in the ACT.
