The Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities has opened regional offices for the Inland Rail Project in Dubbo (NSW), Albury-Wodonga (NSW/Victoria) and Toowoomba (Queensland).
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Michael McCormack (pictured) said Department staff would work with the community to capitalise on the economic and social opportunities of the project, which he said would create jobs and investment opportunities in the three States.
He said the appointment of Regional Liaison Officers would assist businesses and communities on a regional scale to capitalise on the economic and social opportunities of the project.
Mr McCormack said staff would work with stakeholders to maximise local procurement and employment opportunities, as well as preparing industries and regions to take advantage of the opportunities arising from the operation of inland rail.
The Minister said the Parkes-to-Narromine stage would be the first part of the project to begin construction.
Member for Groom, John McVeigh said he was pleased to see Department personnel located in Toowoomba specifically tasked to work with local people across the Darling Downs to the Queensland border on the nation-building project.
“Currently we have two Regional Liaison Officers; and we expect the number of positions to increase as the inland rail progresses,” Mr McVeigh said.
Mr McCormack said construction works would begin once all necessary approvals had been received.
