Applications are now open for membership of Victoria’s new Anti-Racism Taskforce, which is to play a key role in the development of a State-wide strategy to prevent race-based discrimination and abuse.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Ros Spence said the new State-wide Anti-Racism Strategy would proactively prevent and address racism in Victoria.
“We want passionate, committed Victorians to help us fight racism and develop a State-wide plan to prevent it,” Ms Spence said.
“Because racism and discrimination, in any form, has no place in Victoria,” she said.
“Preventing and cracking down on race-based discrimination and abuse is vital to building a stronger, fairer Victoria.”
Ms Spence said the Strategy would focus on a broad range of elements that underlie and perpetuated racial discrimination, like unconscious bias; privilege; and the intersection of race with other forms of discrimination.
The Minister said the Anti-Racism Taskforce would provide advice and recommendations to Government to ensure that the Strategy had a clear and targeted roadmap to reduce racism.
“The Taskforce will also consult directly with communities to elevate a diversity of voices and perspectives,” she said.
“Applications are encouraged from individuals with a diverse range of professional and lived experience to ensure the Taskforce reflects the diversity within our community.”
Ms Spence said the leadership of the Taskforce was being finalised and would be supported by members who had a range of high-level skills and expertise.
Applicants have until Friday 16 April to lodge their application and further information on the Taskforce, including how to apply, can be accessed at this PS News link.
