QCS women officers receive recognition

Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) recognised five of its officers on International Women’s Day last week (8 March).

Deputy Commissioner of the QCS, Gary McCahon said it was the first time the Agency had hosted an International Women’s Day event.

The following were recognised on the day.

Outstanding Female Leader:

Maryborough Correctional Centre Chief Superintendent Kristine Winter (pictured).

“Ms Winter demonstrates exemplary leadership, consistently inspiring and positively encouraging the development of all colleagues.”

Outstanding Emerging Female Leader:

Community Corrections and Specialist Operations Training Manager, Victoria Matthews.

“Ms Matthews has mentored, coached and supported staff in a complex work environment.”

Excellence in Performance:

Woodford Correctional Centre Safety and Compliance Advisor, Sharon Broanda.

“Ms Broanda has forged positive stakeholder relationships to support custodial operations with violence reduction strategies and resilience presentations.”

Excellence in Performance:

Wynnum Probation and Parole Senior Case Manager, Madonna Nuttall.

“Ms Nuttall has a strong commitment to working with individuals on supervision to influence behavioural change.”

Excellence in Performance:

Strategic Future Command – Strategic Policy Group Director, Fiona Patterson.

“Ms Patterson has been at the forefront of QCS’s engagement in a variety of whole-of-Government initiatives.”

Deputy Commissioner McCahon said the QCS had a responsibility to continue the forward movement of women’s rights and to advocate for equality.

“All the winners are exemplary role models for QCS and future officers and deserve to be recognised for their commitment to embrace inclusion and uphold public safety,” Deputy Commissioner McCahon said.
