The Department of Industry has released a new plan for Murray River water resources and is seeking feedback from the community.
Minister for Water, Property and Housing, Melinda Pavey has announced that the Water Resource Plan is now on public exhibition.
”The water resource plans are a key requirement of the Murray Darling Basin Plan, and provide for the continuing and sustainable use of the Murray groundwater resources into the future,” Mrs Pavey said.
“The draft plan includes the water sharing arrangements for the Lower Murray Deep, Lower Murray Shallow, Upper Murray and Billabong Creek groundwater resources.”
She said eight draft water resource plans were released for public exhibition in late 2018.
“The Murray plan is one of the 12 remaining draft plans being released for public exhibition over the coming months,” Mrs Pavey said.
“We need to ensure we have a stronger focus on implementation of plans – this has been a legitimate criticism of the past.”
She said key stakeholders, Murray valley communities and First Nations people will continue to be an essential part of finalising the water resource plan for the Murray groundwater resources.
The 106 page plan can be accessed on this PS News link and feedback will be accepted until Saturday, 20 July.
