Five Public Service Departments are calling on Victorians to have their say on how to make key sectors of the economy and environment more resilient to the impacts of climate change.
Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio said consultation was underway on seven draft Climate Change Adaptation Action Plans, three Action Plans from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and one each from the Department of Health, the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions, the Department of Transport and the Department of Education and Training.
Ms D’Ambrosio said the Plans focused on sectors regarded as vulnerable to climate change or that were considered to have an important role in adapting to further change.
She said the seven Plans covered Primary Production, Built Environment; Education and Training; Health and Human Services; Transport; Natural Environment; and Water Cycle.
“Government is seeking input from the community to shape the Plans which will set a solid foundation for a climate-resilient Victoria,” Ms D’Ambrosio said.
“The Plans respond to priorities in Victoria’s Climate Change Strategy, address current impacts and the systematic changes needed to prepare key sectors for the future climate,” she said.
“Each plan is different because each sector has its own unique climate change risks and opportunities.”
Ms D’Ambrosio said the Plans also addressed common challenges, such as sea-level rise, emergency management and energy resilience.
The Minister said consultation on the seven Climate Change Adaptation Action Plans was open until 6 August.
