A record number of people are taking part in the Public Sector Commission’s 2021 Aboriginal Traineeship Program.
The Commission said that in February, 46 trainees had started the Program and were placed in Government Agencies as far north as Broome, Karratha and Carnarvon to Albany and Bunbury in the south.
“The program helps Agencies to build diverse, talented and inclusive workforces and gives young Aboriginal people formal training, prospective employment opportunities and support while completing a Certificate III in Government,” the Commission said.
“Local Governments are part of the program for the first time this year, with trainees in Wanneroo, Victoria Park and Bunbury,” it said.
“We run the program in metropolitan and regional areas each year by matching interested host Agencies with trainees and provide ongoing support throughout the traineeship,” it said.
The Commission said the program, operating since 2012, provided young Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders with the knowledge, skills, and a pathway to kick-start a career in the public sector.
It said trainees would get a unique insight into the wide range of exciting professions available in the public sector.
“We’re going to follow some of these motivated and enthusiastic young trainees – and share their stories as they go through their traineeships,” the Commission said.
