The ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards is an annual event that celebrates those in business, organisations and individuals in a wide range of enterprises that encourage and welcome people with a disability.
That it has grown and prospered is a credit to all who find ways to provide meaningful work and ways to involve and nurture those who have a disability and its growth is indicative of this community and its continuing involvement in the pursuit of innovative and inclusive means to make a “small change for a big difference”.
Chair of the ACT Inclusion Council, Hugh Chalmers welcomed guests to the annual thank-you lunch for the many and varied supporters of the awards at the Ottoman restaurant where certificates were handed out and the Chief Minister made a brief but sincere visit to personally thank those who contributed to the success of the awards.
The continuation of this event is of course dependant on the CM having funds to support the occasion but despite the recent election and a not so jovial response from the CM on the support for the good things we do, Canberrans know that good things engender more good from our government, local businesses, individuals and larger enterprises, and where there’s need we can make things happen.
Once Canberra depended on the fortnightly pay packets of Federal Public Servants, now the CM tells us that we, the others, represent 60% of our economy. We’ve come a long way.
