Nominations are now open for recipients of next year’s Public Service Medals (PSM) with the round of awards to be announced on Australia Day 2021.
The PSM recognises outstanding service in the public sector for individuals who have gone above and beyond the normal requirements of the position
In a statement, the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) said the PSM was not confined to senior officers, rather it was available to any public sector employee regardless of grade, age or length of service.
“The PSM is a prestigious, internationally recognised award within the Australian Honours and Awards system,” the Department said.
“In NSW, nominations are considered by the NSW PSM Committee which recommends a list of proposed recipients to the Premier,” it said.
“Nominations for NSW recipients are then put forward to the Governor-General, who has the authority to approve the award.”
DPC said the PSM was a prestigious honour with only 100 recipients awarded nationally each year.
“NSW recipients of the PSM are awarded at an investiture ceremony hosted by the Governor of NSW on behalf of the Governor-General,” it said.
“Receiving a PSM entitles recipients to use the post nominal ‘PSM’ to formally acknowledge their achievement.”
The Department said nominations were open until 3 August.
