The 2018 Public Sector Innovation Awards have been announced with the four winners named as the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (Austrac), the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Department of Home affairs.
Conducted by the ACT Division of the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) in partnership with the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science and the Public Sector Innovation Network, the annual Awards recognise, celebrate and share innovative work in the Australian Public Service (APS) and ACT Public Service.
Now in their third year, the 2018 Awards were presented yesterday (23 July) in Canberra.
The winners were:
Citizen- centred innovation category:
Australian Bureau of Statistics for its Australia says “yes” — Australian marriage law postal survey;
Culture and capability category:
Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (Austrac) for its Austrac’s ASEAN-Australia codeathon;
Digital and data category:
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for its Tupaia: Improving access to healthcare in Asia-Pacific — harnessing untapped resources;
Judges’ Award:
Department of Home affairs for the Removal of the outgoing passenger card.
“These Awards were created to better recognise and celebrate the innovative work that occurs within the public sector, including to: highlight the innovation happening within the public sector; spread the good ideas that have been put into practice, and the lessons learnt; and foster a culture that supports and celebrates people and agencies doing things differently” the organisers said.
