Australia Post has announced it is to partner with Woolworths to deliver boxes of grocery essentials to vulnerable customers across Australia.

Group Chief Executive and Managing Director of Australia Post, Christine Holgate said the grocery boxes would include $80 worth of meals, snacks and essential items.

“As with our new Pharmacy Home Delivery Service, we are continuing to explore ways to help the vulnerable and serve our country,” Ms Holgate said.

“We are working tirelessly to look at how we can use our unrivalled national network to deliver some comfort to those in need, while we all go through this challenging time.”

She said Australia Post would provide contactless doorstep delivery of the grocery boxes in line with COVID-19 measures, within an estimated delivery time of 2 to 5 business days nationwide.

“We know so many people are really struggling to get their essential needs during this time, particularly the vulnerable and elderly who may not be able to visit their local supermarket,” Ms Holgate said.

“Making delivery to people’s home is critical at this time.”

Ms Holgate said that under the partnership arrangement, boxes could be ordered online and delivery tracking would be provided to customers.

She said the grocery boxes had been designed for customers currently unable to visit a Woolworths store, including the elderly, people with a disability, those with compromised immunity and people in mandatory isolation.
