South Australia Police (SAPOL) is highlighting the positive experiences and backgrounds of two recent police academy graduates as a way of attracting other keen job seekers to join its ranks.

Welcoming 20 police officers from Course 52 who graduated at the SAPOL Academy last week (20 July), SAPOL said the course comprised a diverse group, with members ranging in age from 20 and 47 years from backgrounds including retail, cleaning, hospitality, plumbing, health and fitness, sales and personal care.

It said the recruits would be posted to a range of locations, including nine members who would be going to country areas including Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Port Augusta, Barossa and Mt Gambier.

Of the recruits, SAPOL highlighted the experiences of Adelaide local Ella (pictured left) and new Australian Amit (pictured right) who moved to Australia from Fiji when he was 11 years old.

SAPOL said Ella is to be posted to Port Pirie where she was looking forward to gaining experience in country policing.

“I am extremely excited to graduate and get out on the road,” Ella said.

“The course is both challenging yet rewarding,” she said.

Also praising the course, Amit said he: “wanted to give back to the community that has accepted us as one of their own for so many years and continues to do so.”

SAPOL said it was recruiting for possible new police right now.

“Positioning us an employer of choice, SAPOL is calling for people who see themselves as community leaders, confident problem solvers, champions of change, high flyers, adventurers and fitness fans,” it said.

“To make the application process easier, SAPOL has implemented a range of initiatives – including the transition to an online application process and covering the cost of the SAPOL TAFE recruitment test (for a limited time only).”
