Townsville District’s newest Queensland Police Service (QPS) recruits have begun working the beat across the city as First Year Constables (FYCs).
The QPS said the eight FYCs were part of a cohort of 53 recruits who were inducted at the Oxley academy on 23 September.
It said the FYCs had begun their policing careers at Kirwan, Stuart, Mundingburra, Townsville and Deeragun Stations.
The QPS said the five men and three women, ranging in ages from 21 to 26, took part in an orientation program during which they met their commanding officer, Northern District Officer and Chief Superintendent, Craig Hanlon, who welcomed them to the area.
“We are confident these new officers have the skills and abilities to help us achieve our goal of keeping the community safe,” Chief Superintendent Hanlon said.
“Policing is a dynamic career and we welcome these new officers to the Queensland Police Service and Townsville District,” he said.
Chief Superintendent Hanlon said he had no doubt the new FYCs would meet every challenge head on, gaining the experience that would only add to their ability to assist the community.
The new officers, from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Maryborough, joined the QPS from diverse backgrounds including having completed degrees in Bachelor of Justice and Criminology and Criminal Justice, and studying Forensic Science/Criminology.
Other employment backgrounds include a butcher, court officer, personal trainer, barista and hospitality and event manager.
