An Assistant Commissioner with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) has taken out a national award in the 2019 Telstra Australian Business Women’s Awards.
Assistant Commissioner Debbie Platz (pictured) won in the Public Sector and Academia Awards category for her work in driving a transformation of culture within the Australian Federal Police.
The award judges said Assistant Commissioner Platz’s dedication to protecting and caring for the community, and her passion for diversity and inclusion, drove her to the top of her category.
In a statement, the judges said they were impressed by Assistant Commissioner Platz’s dedication to protecting and caring for the community, and her passion for diversity and inclusion, which had led her to drive transformation of the culture within the police force.
“Specialising in Crime Operations, Debbie leads, manages and cares for the resourcing for this area across Australia and offshore,” the judges said.
“Debbie is known for creating a shift in her policing area, moving it from a culture of dependence to a culture of capability.
“She has created a workplace culture that balances a sense of belonging and uniqueness for all team members.”
The judges said that having a passion for the self-development of women, Assistant Commissioner Platz had also led a Senior Women’s Forum and two development forums for policing jurisdictions.
