The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet has announced that the Development of Australia’s third Open Government Partnership (OGP), the National Action Plan 2020-22 (NAP3) is nearing completion.

The Department said the final round of consultation would close on 6 November and interested parties were encouraged to have their say by then.

In a statement, the Department said that following earlier rounds of consultation, it had developed seven draft commitments on themes such as open data, access to information, transparency during times of emergency and crisis and open dialogue between Civil Society and Government.

“We now seek final feedback on these draft commitments, which the Open Government Forum will consider when it meets again to finalise NAP3 in November,” the Department said.

“The final NAP3 will then be recommended to Government by the end of 2020.”

It said that over the course of the current final consultation, two webinars were being run to provide an overview of the draft commitments.

“If you would like to participate in any of these webinars, please subscribe to the Open Government Partnership Australia mailing list, and registration information will be provided shortly,” the Department said.

The Open Government Partnership is an international initiative focusing on supporting Governments to be more open and transparent, and improve decision-making processes.

Since its launch in 2011, around 75 countries have committed to the initiative.

Australia joined in 2015 and has delivered two National Action Plans, developed jointly by Government and Civil Society.
