The State Library of South Australia (SLSA) has unveiled a plan to provide a more contemporary service to take the Library into the future.
Director of the SLSA, Geoff Strempel said Future Directions – Towards 2030 provided the Library with a vision for future success that reflects community expectations and has action plan to guide it along the way.
“We’re looking to provide a more contemporary service that reflects community expectations, the increasing shift to digital service delivery and provides a comfortable, modern and intuitive multi-purpose space for customers wanting to access the collections,” Mr Strempel said.
“Ultimately it’s about bringing the community, staff, services and the collections closer together,” he said.
Mr Strempel said the vision identified key priorities which included Collect (develop and preserve diverse collections); Connect (community engagement face-to-face and online); Collaborate (work with partners to hold exhibitions, public programs and events); and Capability (deliver high-quality services by embracing innovation, systems improvement and staff development).
“Part of this focus is to diversify our collections to ensure that we are reflecting the diverse stories of our communities,” he said.
“Recognising the changing nature of working life, we are embracing the growing need for accessible and flexible working spaces by expanding our popular community hub and providing a greater amenity for all users.”
Mr Stempel said a redesigned larger hub would provide city residents, workers, students and visitors with a modern space to study, meet and collaborate.
“All these changes require a flexible, highly skilled team of employees and volunteers,” he said.
“We will make sure that all who work at the Library are supported in their ongoing endeavour to provide excellent care of our collections and service to all users.”
