A new photo competition has been launched by the Department of Education to highlight the unique perspectives of the State’s rural and remote schools.
The Department said the photo story competition, Looking through our window, sought to celebrate the people, places and spaces of rural and remote education.
“Rural and remote communities have individual strengths and unique contexts which will be captured through the competition,” the Department said.
“Around 25 per cent of public school students attend a rural and remote school in NSW,” it said.
“Entries are open for rural and remote schools to submit a sequence of 10 photos that showcase the great things about rural and remote education.”
The Department said the photos could depict students and staff, classrooms and playgrounds, or unique and unusual qualities found in rural and remote schools.
“A judging panel will determine the winning schools who will receive prize money to be used by the school’s student representative groups on projects to improve the school learning environment,” it said.
“Winning photos will be used to build a greater understanding of rural and remote education in the wider community.”
It said the photo stories should be reflective of the diverse contexts of rural and remote education, showcase a school’s strengths and celebrate its school community.
Entries close on 11 September with winners to be announced at the end of Term Three.
