Phillip Oval in Woden is set to sustainably light up the night following the installation of new solar panels, just in time for the 2021 football season.
According to OurCBR, Phillip Oval is one of the latest sporting grounds to ramp up its renewable credentials, with the new panels expected to help it become more sustainable and cut energy bills by up to 40 per cent.
The solar upgrade was made possible by a $36,000 Capital Assistance Program (CAP) grant from the Sport and Recreation unit in the Community Services Directorate.
“The upgrades will help the oval operate more efficiently and encourage greater participation from members of the community,” the unit said.
“The popularity of solar is growing for community groups and households, and projects like this are playing a valuable role in maintaining the ACT’s 100 per cent renewable electricity supply,” it said.
The new panels have been installed on top of the Cricket ACT building.
Sport and Recreation said the primary objective of the CAP was to provide financial assistance for capital developments to sport and recreation facilities that would increase community access and participation opportunities in sport and physical recreation activity in the ACT.
