Patients warned on power outages

Energex has warned consumers who need a continuous supply of power for advanced medical equipment to ensure they have a plan for unexpected outages, especially during the storm season.

Manager of Customer Operations at Energex, Cloe Kernick said that at this time of year everyone should be prepared for the disruptions wild weather could cause, particularly anyone whose health was reliant on electricity supply.

“Summer is notorious for severe weather and, while we have a very robust power network in Queensland, lightning, high winds and flooding can interrupt the electricity supply,” Ms Kernick said.

“This is why it’s ideal for anyone in need of powered health equipment to have a comprehensive plan in place enabling them to get through the period without electricity or have enough time to seek medical assistance.”

She said this should include calling their electricity retailer or Energex on 13 19 62 to ensure their latest contact details were up to date.

“This way we have the right details should we need to contact them,” Ms Kernick said.

“It’s also ideal these customers speak to their GP to put a plan in place should their home be without power for an extended period.”

This should include knowing how to reach their nearest hospital or medical facility, or going to a friend or family member’s house that still had power.
