Pandemic projects improve services

Several fast-tracked infrastructure projects, commenced last year to create work during the COVID-19 pandemic, have been completed.

Minister for Transport and City Services, Chris Steel said the small-scale infrastructure works were established to support local jobs and provide Canberrans with better services.

“I’m pleased to say many of these projects are now complete,” Mr Steel said.

He said work had included improved roads, footpaths and picnic amenities; new public toilets; paving upgrades at 13 local shopping centres; two new park and ride locations; weed removal; and a new bike-and-ride facility on Barry Drive.

“Work is also almost finished on two new modern, safe and accessible public toilet facilities at Lake Tuggeranong and John Knight Memorial Park, with both expected to be open for use in the coming weeks,” Mr Steel said.

“To complement the annual road resurfacing program, we have increased asphalt patching at various locations across the ACT to fix potholes and ensure we continue to have high-quality roads across Canberra,” he said.

“This work included specific patching programs at Banks, Gordon, Conder, Isabella Plains, Gilmore, Weston, Curtin, Symonston, Chapman and Hughes.”

Mr Steel said new and relocated bus stops in Taylor, Coombs, Wright and Denman Prospect would round out the fast-tracked projects.
