The Sydney Opera House has announced that Honeywell is its first Global Goals partner joining forces to support the Opera House’s commitment to sustainability, diversity and inclusion.

In a statement, the Opera House said that in October 2019 it became the first Australian arts institution to commit to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“A to-do list for the world, the ‘Global Goals’ address some of the most pressing issues of our time, including poverty, inequality, climate, education and justice,” the Opera House management said.

It said that during the three-year partnership with Honeywell, a leader in building technologies, the two organisations would collaborate on initiatives aligned with the Global Goals, including helping the Opera House become climate-positive by 2023; holding an event on how engineers are contributing to positive social and environmental change; and launching a program to support First Nations tertiary graduates with their chosen profession.

Chief Executive of the Sydney Opera House, Louise Herron said Honeywell technology had already helped the Opera House reduce its water consumption by 30 per cent through improved monitoring and had supported its goal of reducing energy use by 20 per cent.

“This new partnership will enable an expanded range of significant projects, contributing to the huge collaborative effort required to achieve the Global Goals,” Ms Herron said.
