This five track EP is interesting in that it’s an EP of covers and it’s been released by a comedian.

Scout Durwood is probably better known as an actor, writer, and comedian than for her singing, but she actually started out as a singer.

She’s best known for her MTV comedy series Mary + Jane and its associated album Take One Thing Off.

Her 22-episode digital series of the same name was nominated for Best Indie Series at the 2019 YouTube Streamy Awards.

Prior to these comedy successes Durwood was a Cabaret performer in New York who took the well-worn path, taken by legions before her, of moving to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.

Durwood tours the world as a comedian and has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Bridge Town Comedy Festival, and even the Slamdance film Festival.

One Woman Army presents Scout Durwood the Cabaret performer and reveals her to have a very good and expressive voice.

She’s a cross between Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie, while the opening cut from the EP has definite Fleetwood Mac overtones.

One Woman Army is a song written and performed by Porcelain Black and it’s an outstanding track and great introduction to the EP.

I have to say that I much prefer Scout Durwood’s version to the original.

She follows this with the classic Unchained Melody which she once again masters.

It’s often dangerous for a performer to take on much loved classics but Scout has the skills to pull it off successfully.

Scout works her way through some good old fashioned rock’n’roll inHanky Panky and does a delightful rendition of the Beatles Help which is slowed down and greatly intensifies the pathos.

The final track is the wonderful Killers’ song Christmas in LA.

Scout makes it her own and closes out the EP in style.

It’s mostly the case that talented people tend to be skilled in more than one discipline and this EP proves the point.
