Can you imagine being a teenager or young adult and deciding to form a band with your aunty?

Well that’s what the members of Gold Coast band Girl and Girl have done and if this single is anything to go by then it was a good move.

The band consist of Kai Aubort, brothers Jaden and Coby Williams, and Kai’s auntie Liss.

Who is auntie Liss? Well according to the Triple J bio advice they suggest “ask your parents” because they were probably dancing themselves into a crazed sweaty lather to her drumming 30 years ago in the pubs around Newtown in Sydney.

And now she’s doing it all again with her nephew and his mates.

Girl and Girl first came to prominence through Triple J Unearthed and during 2019 became one of the must see bands gigging around the Gold Coast and Brisbane scenes.

Music reviewer for Shamrock News, Ian Browne, named them the “Best Live Band” of 2019 and ABC Gold Coast Drive named them “Faves Of The Year” for 2019.

In addition to this they took out the battle Of The Bands Green Room Prize so they have had quite an impact in the first year of their existence.

Ocean Song is the second track that they’ve released following on from Zachariah’s Third Eye which was released last year.

They’ve got a really interesting sound that’s a mix of the classic Aussie pub rock attitude blended with catchy pop hooks with a dollop or two of indie rock sensibility thrown in for good measure.

Although the pandemic may have somewhat curtailed their live shows it’s rumoured that they have been working on their debut EP which is expected to be released sometime this year.

It should be a good one because Ocean Song is an impressive track.
