The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has won multiple glittering gongs at the New York Festivals Television & Film Awards, celebrating distinctively Australian dramas and documentaries on the world stage.
In a statement, the Broadcaster said the 2021 New York Festivals TV & Film Awards featured world-class work from more than 40 countries.
The ABC said award winners included gold medals for Love on the Spectrum and Australia’s Ocean Odyssey – A Journey Down The East Australian Current and a silver medal for the Catalyst episode Kill or Cure? The Story of Venom.
“The ABC’s commitment to stories for and about Indigenous Australia was recognised with a silver award for the documentary Maralinga Tjarutja and bronze for drama Total Control, the second season of which will premiere on ABC TV and ABC iview on Sunday 7 November,” it said.
“The plaudits came as ABC audio programs Stuff the British Stole, Earshot and Background Briefing won medals at the New York Festivals Radio Awards.”
The ABC said Songlines: Solutions to Climate Change was also named as a finalist in the Awards’ Best Documentary category.
The Broadcaster said its Love on the Spectrum series followed young adults on the autism spectrum as they navigated the unpredictable and complicated world of dating and relationships.
It said its Stuff the British Stole podcast explored the not-so-polite history of objects stolen by the British Empire throughout its reign.
