The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is encouraging those who have not yet completed their Census form to do so.
Executive Director of the Census at the ABS, Andrew Henderson said Census night was on 10 August but people still had time to complete their forms.
“We want to make sure everyone is included in the Census so they can help tell their community’s story,” Mr Henderson said.
“You can do the Census online, by paper or with help from us,” he said.
“If you can’t find, or haven’t received your letter, don’t worry, you can go online and complete your Census without a code.”
Mr Henderson said there were a range of help and support options for people who needed assistance to complete their Census, and people could order a paper form through the ABS’s Census website or by calling 1800 512 441.
“If we don’t hear from you soon, you’ll get an overdue notice and/or a visit from our field staff,” he said.
“We know most Australians understand that Census isn’t just numbers but what those numbers tell us—every stat tells a story.
“That’s why your participation is vital.”
He said Census data was used to plan and deliver services across Australia and having the right numbers meant the right services could be provided to the community.
Mr Henderson said the Census was compulsory and, following letters and visits from Census staff, a person may be fined if they refused to complete it.
